Impact of the potato inoculation date on potato virus Y load and viral distribution in daughter tubers at harvest

چکیده

Aged plants are more difficult to infect than young plantlets. This modification of susceptibility is described as mature plant resistance (MPR). For potato virus Y (PVY), MPR known lead low infection rates inoculated at the postflowering stage and a decrease in number infected daughter tubers. However, impact inoculation date on capacity PVY accumulate tubers has not been studied so far. Field greenhouse experiments were carried out better understand epidemiology help growers evaluate consequences early/late infections quality their crops. In field trials, (cv. Bintje) covered by insectproof nets from planting harvest except for 14-day period expose natural infections. Under controlled conditions, mechanically with different dates preflowering stages (early inoculations) (late inoculations). At harvest, individually collected analysed define proportions viral load according time between harvest. Our results showed that although age can modify infection, return, early late inoculations similar scale equivalent accumulation All together, these data revealed both high risks sanitary

IMPACT OF POTATO VIRUS Y ON LONG-TERM STORAGE OF POTATO. Principal Investigator(s)

In recent years, Potato Virus Y has reemerged as a serious disease problem in many potato production areas in the northern United States and eastern Canada. Three recently introduced cultivars, ‘Russet Norkotah’, ‘Shepody’, and ‘Silverton’ are widely grown and express mild or no symptoms when infected with PVY. The lack of symptoms often associated with these cultivars and novel, recombinant st...

Heterologous Expression of Potato Virus Y Coat Protein, Isolate Pot187

Background: The advent of recombinant DNA technology has facilitated heterologous expression of proteins from various sources in different host systems including Escherichia coli. If a plant virus coat protein is expressed in the bacterium it can be used as the antigen for antibody preparation. Such a recombinant antigen preparation can be particularly useful where equipment such as ultracentri...

Potato virus X-induced gene silencing in leaves and tubers of potato.

Virus induced gene silencing (VIGS) is increasingly used to generate transient loss-of-function assays and has potential as a powerful reverse-genetics tool in functional genomic programs as a more rapid alternative to stable transformation. A previously described potato virus X (PVX) VIGS vector has been shown to trigger silencing in the permissive host Nicotiana benthamiana. This paper demons...
